They are determined to get to Machu Picchu on a hike but
have not yet decided between the two main alternatives. The famous Inca Trail vs Salkantay Trek route.
Both options offer unforgettable experiences, but each in its own way. We
invite you to read about the differences between the Salkantay Trek vs Inca Trail.
Inca Trail
The Inca Trail Tours 2022 travels 42 kilometers of jungle and
mountains, visiting some archaeological complexes such as Patallacta, the ruins
of Wiñay Wayna and, of course, the lost city of Machu Picchu. In addition, it
delivers unforgettable landscapes of the Cordillera de Vilcabamba.
Salkantay Trek
Just as the Inca Trail is the most popular and classic
circuit in the area, there are a number of alternative trekking that do not
require permission to perform them. Within them, Salkantay Trek is considered between the 25 best treks in the world by National Geographic. This route runs through the southern part of
the Vilcabamba mountain range, showing beautiful landscapes that vary from
Pampas to the jungle.
Being a less known route, it does not have the amount of
visitors that the Inca Trail has and it does not require any permission to
travel this trek. Although, unlike the Inca Trail does not include historical
ruins before arriving at Machu Picchu, the Salkantay trek ensures less
expenses, a route with fewer people and spectacular panoramic views of the
mountain range, especially from the Salkantay pass.
